Ballot Omission Threatens Aiken County Races

George Williams and Carl Hair may not appear on the November ballot for auditor and pro bate judge after their names were not on the Democratic Party list submitted by party chair Robert E. Oswald. Election officials say candidates must be submitted by noon Sept 18 and, with the late timing, adding them is not possible. Williams calls it a typographical error. Hair says he has not yet been notified his name will be absent and plans to see how the situation unfolds.

Hit-and-run injures couple in two cars on Whiskey Road

An Aiken man LeRoy Roberts and his wife were struck by a metallic blue Z 28 Camaro while driving separate cars on Whiskey Road Saturday around 6 p.m. The car allegedly crossed the center line, struck their two vehicles, then fled north. A witness described the driver as a white woman with shoulder length hair. information urged to contact the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Riley Praises Textile Industry in South Carolina

State budget cuts hit Aiken state jobs and college posts

The State Budget and Control Board orders a 7 percent across the board cut in state agency personnel to trim a 1.9 billion next year budget. At Aiken Technical College six positions will go by July 1, with four currently filled, totaling an 82 254 drop in TEC funds. USC Aiken plans no firm cuts yet while USC Aiken evaluates impact. Officials stress the need to balance the budget and await final board decisions.
