North Augusta City Council is set to hold a 7:30 p.m. session at the municipal building on Buena Vista Avenue. The proposed budget of 5,918,000 plus two ordinances will receive a third reading, with a 88 mill tax rate and higher sanitation fees. A personnel rules change converts vacation and sick leave from days to hours for calculation.
Philip England, chairman of the Aiken County Planning Commission, calls the Bobby Jones Expressway extension into Aiken County crucial for development. A hearing at Butler High School in Augusta reviewed the plan, with a $1.52 million TI P program proposed for five years, including $520,000 for engineering this year. The project awaits funding agreement among regional and state highway agencies. The extension would run from North Augusta to I-20 near U.S. 1Fa.

Sheriff-elect Carrol Heath asks Aiken County Council to take over jail management starting January. Council approved the move in an executive session but has not yet acted publicly. The plan shifts control from the sheriff to the council, with potential savings and extended use of prisoners for road work and public duties. The jail would remain open to municipal prisoners at no cost and budgets would stay unaffected. The council may treat the measure as an emergency ordinance to act in one meeting and then follow the standard three readings within 60 days. A date for consideration has not been set.
