Supreme Court leaves half million slander award intact
In Spartanburg, the high court affirmed a lower court ruling awarding Constant half a million dollars for slander after he was accused of sealing a welding machine. The state Supreme Court noted Constant had returned the equipment to its rightful owners and approved the rehearing. In Anderson, deputies arrested a Georgia man linked to more than a dozen store robberies. He identified himself as Damon Thompson of Georgia. Detectives traced tips to informants to Williamston and Anderson police.

Teen gets 55 years for crime spree in Columbia
A 17 year old Richland County teen Emeene Mitchell received a 55 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to nine kidnapping counts six armed robbery counts two aggravated assault counts and related charges. The five day spree ended October 8 1998 and occurred when he was 16.
