Alvanos owner is safe after missing person case

Martha Jean McKinney co owner of the Laurens Street restaurant returned home after three days absent. She had left Tuesday to play video poker and was located in Charleston with relatives. Her daughter in law said depression from long work weeks contributed to the disappearance and the family expected her to return Monday.

Blessing of the Hounds Draws Hundreds in Aiken

Thanksgiving crowds of over 300 gathered at Hitchcock Woods for the Blessing of the Hounds. Riders drank from the stirrup cup before the 11 a.m. start while hounds followed a dragged scent through the forest. Demolition to begin at tire plant with water advisory

Texas demolition experts will start tearing steel beams at the Carlisle Tire and Rubber Plant in Verene's Industrial Park as a tire-filled storage building burns. Fire crews rotate, flare-ups expected, while north Aiken residents drink bottled water despite DHEC tests finding no toxins in 124 chemicals. Shoppers hit stores early in busy holiday rush

Aiken shoppers filled stores before sunrise on Black Friday with Kmart Walmart and Dillard's JB White Belk and JC Penney opening early. Walmart opened at midnight and Kmart at 6 am drawing hundreds in line spilling into aisles while Kay Bees Toys drew shoppers to its lone open shop. Mall crowds totaled hundreds at 6 am with two sets of doors and a mad dash for popular toys.

Churches serve Thanksgiving dinners to needy in Aiken

Second Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church provided traditional Thanksgiving meals at their downtown Aiken sites and delivered to patients in nursing homes and homeless areas. More than 100 volunteers worked with donations funding meals including seven turkeys and six hams.
