Incoming Senate Energy Chair James McClure ... backs a federal takeover of the Barnwell facility and its original reprocessing use. He predicts early Reagan moves toward a breeder reactor demo and licensing of reprocessing plants. Senate approved 49 million for SRP L-reactor upgrade and 10 million for the proposed defense waste processing facility design. The two stage DWPF aims at solidifying high level waste for disposal in a geological repository, with total cost now about 1.8 billion.
