Auction Sells 1893 Wax Cylinder of Early Black Vocal Group

A 120-year-old wax cylinder containing the 1893 recording of the Unique Quartet’s Mama's Black Baby Boy sold for 1100 dollars at Saco River Auction Co. The other copy is in the Library of Congress. A second 1896 Unique Quartet song sold for 1900 dollars. The buyer acquired both rare recordings, which predate vinyl.
