Museum of the Marine aims to honor Carolinas history
Supporters near Camp Lejeune launch a national drive to raise 12 million dollars for a Museum of the Marine in North and South Carolina. The spiral building will depict Marines advancing from sea to shore and highlight civilian support, training of women and Black Marines, and first-person accounts. The Navy leases a 27 acre site near Lejeune for one dollar annually with Jacksonville pledging one million dollars in funds.
