Gore refuses to concede as recount in Florida lingers

Associated Press reports Gore will not concede if hand recount totals show Bush ahead in Florida and will pursue action in Miami-Dade County where recount was canceled. His lawyers urge Supreme Court to stay out, arguing court interference would delegitimise the election. Florida Supreme Court had rejected Gore bid to resume manual recounts in Miami-Dade before the Sunday 5 pm deadline.

Shoppers Ring In Sales Season Across Aiken Stores

Shoppers flocked to Kmart Wal Mart and Target as Thanksgiving weekend opened with doors at 6 7 a m opening hours and lines stretching through parking lots. Customers hunted jewelry scooters and electronics while carts ran scarce and staff described brisk sales and crowded aisles. The day marked a peak in holiday shopping with many plans to buy scooters stereos and gifts for Christmas.

Hopelands Hosts Ninth Christmas in Hopelands Festival

Hopelands Gardens launches its ninth annual Christmas in Hopelands from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. nightly in the Rye Patch reception area. About 70 000 white lights line 1.5 miles of paths with crafts by area vendors including woodcrafts baskets and ceramics. Friday and Saturday evenings feature children craft activities and local concerts on the Roland H Windham Performing Arts Stage starting at 7 p.m. The Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Doll House and Carriage House Museum remain open with seasonal decorations and outside refreshments.
