Morris Arrested Over Church Burglaries In Horse Creek Valley
Gloverville resident Billy Ray Morris, 20, was arrested on 14 church break in incidents in Horse Creek Valley. Aiken County Sheriff's Office Maj. Jody Rowland says Morris confessed to the burglaries tied to drug use. Most break ins occurred after services on Wednesdays and Sundays, with cash and some electronic equipment stolen. Aiken High School FCCLA volunteers led by Jean Gorthy and Linda Harmon organized a Tuesday evening feast at the Salvation Army shelter. Students, aided by faculty and donors, collected 954 cans and packages and secured turkeys from Winn-Dixie, Kroger, Food Lion, and Sav-A-Lot, enriching the shelter’s pantry.

County school board receives good financial news
The Aiken County Board of Education reported strong finances and grant success at its Tuesday meeting. Superintendent Linda Eldridge announced a 257,896 Two Way Distance Education grant, expanding V Tel systems to New Ellenton Middle School and an alternative school, benefiting Allendale County schools and USC Aiken collaborations. The 1998 99 audit, presented by Bill Woodward of Elliot Davis Co, showed no infractions and a fund balance over 2 million.
