Two Aiken Middle Students Held in Juvenile Detention

Two 13 year old male students from Aiken Middle School were arrested Tuesday on suspicions they planned harm to students and staff. They were initially booked and released to parents then moved Friday to a Department of Juvenile Justice detention center in Columbia after a hearing ordered them held. A family court hearing is due in Aiken within 48 hours.

Sanford and Abraham discuss SRS plans in California

Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham met with Gov Mark Sanford in Dana Point California for about a half hour to discuss Savannah River Site plans to handle weapons grade plutonium and other issues The dialogue touched MOX fuel production and pit production while Sanford pressed ironclad assurances on handling and disposal amid state concerns over storage and timetable enforcement tied to Lindsey Graham backed legislation.

Aiken Council weighs McGhees Mile landmark bid

Debate over designating the McGhees Mile Track as a historic landmark continues as Aiken City Council prepares for a final public hearing. Owners Bruce and Janis McGhee oppose the move while resident Kiki Blalock leads the petition. The council plans to review language for an ordinance after discussions with both sides. Thanksgiving travel to rise 40 percent in South Carolina

AAA Carolinas predicts about 513000 South Carolina motorists will travel for Thanksgiving, up from 378700 last year, with 40000 extra traveling by air or other means. David Parsons warns that travel is back and highway dangers remain amid congestion.

Gasoline prices rise for Thanksgiving travel says AAA

AAA Carolinas reports higher unleaded self-serve prices than last Thanksgiving with an average of about 1.38 per gallon. Rocky Mount NC shows 1.45 while High Point NC is 1.30. South Carolina averages 1.40, down from 1.02 a year ago, with national average at 1.42.
