USC forms task force to probe Lancaster campus problems
University of South Carolina to conduct a systemwide review after an internal probe found questionable practices at the Lancaster campus. Issues include fee charging and admissions standards as well as course requirements and attendance. The task force led by Edward C. Wade will report by early 1998.

USC probe into course charges sparks internal audit
USC identified problems after a substitute filled in for Wade who fell ill. Wade, on medical leave since a stroke July 15, said the situation was a surprise. An internal auditor and campus police detectives began investigating about a month ago. Investigators believe students may have been charged less for courses than a systemwide fee schedule approved by USC trustees. Findings will be presented to Solicitor John R. Justice in the coming days.
