East Cold Front Clears Atlantic Coast After Showers

A cold front moved out of the East bringing clearing skies after showers and thundershowers. Isolated severe storms toppled trees near Jewett City Connecticut while Latrobe Pennsylvania recorded 69 mph gusts and Newark New Jersey saw large hail.

Irish visitors complain about American beer in Des Moines

Christina Grainger, a 59 year old Dublin housekeeper, spent eight days in Iowa with 250 fellow Dubliners on a Friendship Force visit. She called American beer “useless” and said Guinness stout is missed, noting it keeps her healthy and has body, unlike the American brew. Ellen Fennell, 51, accompanies her. The group returned to Des Moines after the trip, similar exchanges with Des Moines residents and Lillian Carter.

Doctor says Bumgardner suffers chronic bronchitis not asbestosis

North Carolina lung expert Dr. Ross L. McLean testified that William Bumgardner, 50, of Arden, has a moderately severe chronic bronchitis with only a slight case of asbestosis. He said chest x rays show no progression of asbestosis in three years and that obstructive lung defects align with bronchitis, not asbestosis. Bumgardner sues seven asbestos product firms claiming lung disease from insulation work.
