Ex-deputy in training to face court for manslaughter
Matthew Blakley 24, a former deputy in training with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, is set to appear before a judge at the Aiken County Judicial Center at 9 30 a m on November 30. He is charged with manslaughter in the death of his wife Candace L Blakley 24. The June 13 2015 incident at their North Augusta home led to his arrest by S C Law Enforcement Division. Blakley says the gun discharged accidentally while he showed his wife his rifle.

Aiken County School Board Extends Alford Contract
Aiken County Public Schools rewards Superintendent Dr. Sean Alford with a two year contract extension and an excellent evaluation. The board praised his first 100 days and 15 months of leadership, citing 88.6 percent graduation rate, staffing reductions, expanded Gifted and Talented programs, Code of Conduct updates, and district wide custodial and landscaping initiatives. The unanimous vote followed an executive session and a 65 page recap of district achievements. Rosemary English called him superb and said he exceeded all focus points.
