An independent Energy Department oversight panel found that safety and cleanup plans for nuclear weapons sites failed to prevent environmental problems and were sometimes fundamentally flawed. Danny Harold Rolling, a drifter from Louisiana, was indicted on five counts of first degree murder three counts of sexual battery and three counts of armed burglary for the August 1990 killings of five University of Florida students in off campus apartments. The grand jury heard nine days of testimony viewed photos and videotapes of the crime scenes and Rolling faces possible trial in about two years or more.
Basketball star Magic Johnson accepts President Bush's invitation to join the National Commission on AIDS. He says his role will raise American awareness and help educate diverse communities about the AIDS crisis while maintaining an independent voice.
In Winter Haven Florida Donald DeGreve 65 died on the 16th green at Willowbrook Golf Course from a heart attack. Police delayed contacting the family while officers attempted to reach the widow leading to more than two hours before removal. Neighbors from Swiss Village Mobile Home Park played through after the incident as the golf league he belonged to met weekly.
