Students explore Civil War history at Redcliffe Plantation

At Redcliffe Plantation State Park in Hammond house, students learn genealogy and Civil War history in a hands on program run by the South Carolina Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism. Historian Ron Fischer leads a session while Sgt Key demonstrates practical military life skills linking to Aiken County history. The weather limited cemetery tours but the 16 000 square foot mansion provided a vivid context as teachers and Belvedere Elementary pupils engaged with archives portraits and family history. The series runs through fall with two more programs planned for spring and inquiries can be made at 827 1473.
