Citadel graduates weigh name change amid heated ad
Alumni prepare to vote Friday on renaming the Association of Citadel Men to Association of Citadel Graduates to reflect the coed era. A quarter-page ad signed “Paid for by Citadel Man” urges opposition, citing tradition and fear of erasing the Citadel identity. John Dillingham, Class of 1973, says the ad aims to spark a core issue about preserving the old name while welcoming women. The gathering could turn contentious as factions split over admitting women and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies graduates.
