Manatee Mary Dies After Cold North Carolina Waters

A Florida manatee nicknamed Mary was spotted near Manteo in Roanoke Island Sound and later found dead in the Alligator River as water temperatures fell to 55 degrees. Local dock master Carl Jordan recalls the sightings and rescue efforts.

Egypt Unveils New Pyramid at Saqqara Site

Archaeologists led by Zahi Hawass announced a 4300 year old pyramid at Saqqara, likely for the queen mother of the founder of Egypt's 6th Dynasty. The 72 by 72 feet base supports a now 16 foot structure buried under 65 feet of sand, with white limestone casing remnants. The find marks the 118th pyramid discovered in Egypt and the 12th at Saqqara.
