Fire damages Colleton Avenue home. no injuries reported

About a dozen Aiken firefighters tackled a Saturday morning blaze at 1612 Colleton Ave. The interior was gutted and tenant Queen Lukie was not home. Capt. Wendell Hall said the fire began near the fireplace and firefighters responded around 9:18 a.m.

Perry seeks return of removed political signs in Aiken

State Rep. Skip Perry says six of his large 4 by 6 signs with posts were removed from area roadways. He values reuse and notes each sign costs about 60 to 70 dollars. Another GOP candidate, Gresham Barrett, also reportedly lost signs. A man in a white van, possibly in his 50s, is suspected. Call 648-7547 with information.

Veterans honored in Aiken County with free meal event

Veterans across Aiken County will be honored for their service on Monday. Disabled American Veterans Post 43 will lead the Forget Me Not campaign at Wal Mart and Golden Corral, with donations aiding veterans in treatment programs and a free meal for veterans from 5 to 9 PM.
