Teen charged with cruelty to animals in death
A 14-year-old girl in Aiken is charged with cruelty to animals after a family dog died in a freezer overnight. The eight-pound Chihuahua was placed in the freezer by the teen who thought it was too hot, found by the grandmother under a bed wrapped in a towel. The incident occurred at 1237 Old Barnwell Road and the teen is held by the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.

Langley Pond to undergo water drawdown for inspections
Langley Pond in Aiken County will have its water level lowered starting December 31 for routine dam and pond maintenance. Officials plan to remove stumps, clean edges, and inspect the dam, with the pool returning to normal by mid February. A new swim area about 200 by 100 feet is planned to open in spring once developed.
