Edgefield set for new Woodside Industries yarn plant

Delta Woodside Industries Inc. plans to announce a $32 million yarn plant site in Edgefield on Monday. The facility in Edgefield Industrial Park is to begin with about 80 workers in October 1992 and add about 70 more once full production starts in early 1994.

Cold rain hits Aiken with few injuries and no icing

Aiken County residents faced a cold rain and sleet with some snow in higher elevations. The National Weather Service predicted a slow clearing, with blustery, chilly conditions and temperatures rising from Sunday into the 50s and 60s by Monday. Teledyne executive relocates plant to Aiken after visit

Teledyne Farmis Engineering president Harold Dorton said Aiken sold itself to his family and business after several trips to find a site. He and his wife Diane chose to live there and bought a home at Houndslake before board approval. Dorton noted officials’ help and city openness influenced the decision, and he would keep his Aiken home even if reassigned.
