The Savannah River Plant drives a large share of area and state employment and income. In Aiken County 3 537 workers live there earning 38.6 million annually, while 4 865 workers total 53.1 million in South Carolina. SRP payroll neared 64.3 million for year ending June 30 1971. Purchases totalled 8.1 million in state with 711 045 in Aiken city. Georgia purchases reached 7.7 million with 2.7 million spent in Augusta. About 15 percent of Aiken County residents are connected to SRP through employment or local spin-off. Total SRP workforce includes Du Pont 5 130, Du Pont Construction 570, AEC 180. House Eyes Temporary Foreign Aid Funding Vote
Washington AP Temporary life for foreign aid head ed for a House vote today as the Senate studies a new smaller assistance package. House leaders urged supporters to back a continuing resolution to fund the program past November 15. Some fear the House may balk. The aid program has been in limbo since October 29 when the Senate ended more than two decades of assistance. The Senate began debate on a 2.3 billion package including 1.1 billion in economic aid and 1.2 billion in military aid.

Fraternizer Punished in Londonderry
IRA members tied a 19 year old girl to a lamp post in the Bogside district and shaved her head after accusing her of fraternizing with a British soldier. Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces struck Phnom Penh airport and a radio station near the capital, Cambodia, with at least 25 killed and about 30 wounded.
