Bond would jumpstart school projects in Aiken
Aiken County voters approved a possible $50 million bond to fund renovations and construction at six schools by 2022, easing overcrowding from westward population shifts. Without the bond, work wouldn’t start until 2024 and finish around 2085. District officials seek public feedback at six town hall meetings led by Superintendent Dr Sean Alford and focus on tax impact and project appropriateness.

The district would route sixth graders to Kennedy or Schofield before proceeding to high schools, aiming for demographically balanced schools and better space utilization, though bus routes and drive times drew criticism.
