Shoes recycled into playground surface at City Presbyterian
First Presbyterian Church on Barnwell Avenue uses the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to convert old sneakers into a springy playground surface. The surface, made from ground-up shoe material, replaces sand and wood chips and offers better cushioning for children. Nike's program supplies materials for playgrounds, tracks, and courts, with Reuse-A-Shoe collecting millions of shoes since 1990 and local drop-offs in Sumter and Simpsonville.
