Specter vows fair hearings for Bush nominees on abortion
In a CBS interview Senator Arlen Specter pledged not to block Bush judicial nominees even if they oppose abortion rights and said he has supported nominees who disagree with Roe v. Wade in the past. House Speaker Dennis Hastert urged bipartisan problem solving as Congress reconvenes. Senator-elect Barack Obama said voters want less partisan fighting. White House adviser Karl Rove asserted Bush would push a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman and support civil unions for Gay people. Specter warned conservatives a future Senate may block anti abortion judges already.

Rove recalls ill mood over early exit polling influence
Karl Rove told NBC and Fox News Sunday that early exit polls during the 2004 race unsettled him as polls suggested Kerry gains. He cited Kerry's Iraq funding vote history as a campaign gift and said the race tilted toward Republicans despite initial Democratic optimism.
