Westinghouse offers waste alternatives for Savannah River Site

Westinghouse Savannah River Co after nine months studying more than 100 options proposed two paths to replace the planned in tank precipitation process. One would treat waste in small tanks to control benzene, the other would use ion exchange and avoid benzene. Costs run about 1 billion dollars with seven years to develop either option, with federal review and a Department of Energy decision not expected until next year.
