Aiken Toastmasters Host Meeting and Safety Award News
The Aiken Toastmasters Club met October 17 with Roman Klimenko as Toastmaster of the Evening. Diana Berry and Linda Wright gave prepared speeches while others filled roles. Clyde Smith earned third place in a state speaking competition in Columbia. Sonya Patton of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions named Safety Professional of the Year by the Augusta ASSE chapter for SRTE safety leadership. Patrick Pratt wins $5,000 at the 2013 Aiken Home Show backyard spruce up.

Man with flame thrower in custody after standoff
Aiken man faced two counts of first degree assault after deputies serving probate papers breached his door and were threatened with a homemade flame thrower. SWAT deployed chemical agent. the suspect exited, was treated at the scene, then transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers. No deputies were injured.

Eckstrom to Speak at Aiken Republican Club Meeting
S C State Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom will address the Aiken Republican Club on November 14 at Newberry Hall 117 Newberry St. Reservations by November 13 cost 15 for members and 20 for nonmembers. Registration begins 11 a.m. and lunch is served at noon.
