Absentee voters head to polls in heated South Carolina governor race
In South Carolina absentee lines formed as Gov Hodges and former US Rep Sanford campaigned hard for the governors seat. Hodges emphasized education funding while Sanford pushed tax cuts and school funding shifts. A Mason-Dixon poll had Sanford at 49 to Hodges 42 with 9 undecided. Both candidates reported about 7 million dollars raised for the race, largely spent on television ads. The state seeks strong turnout among Black voters with groups like the South Carolina Voter Coalition mobilizing registration efforts ahead of Election Day.
