Planning Commission to weigh chicken ordinance in Aiken County
A proposed ordinance to allow keeping chickens in select zoning districts will go to the County Planning Commission for discussion and recommendation at the Nov 16 meeting held at the Aiken County Government Center. The Development Committee referred the plan after reviewing city and county chicken ordinances. The measure limits to six hens per household, bans roosters, requires secure enclosures, and prohibits commercial use or slaughter on premises. inspections may occur any time based on complaints, and health regulations apply. The ordinance would not override neighborhood covenants and would expand eligibility to 12 other zoning districts beyond current RUC districts. The Planning Commission will meet at 3 p.m. in the Sandlapper Room.
