Aiken Department of Public Safety reports a second raccoon tested positive for rabies in Cherry Hills Drive, marking the fifth animal positive in 2013 in Aiken County. Rabies is a deadly CNS disease affecting mammals, with raccoons often transmitting it.
Members of the International Oak Society gathered in Aiken for a three day Oak and Horticultural Tour. They visited the City of Aiken Arboretum Trail Hopelands Gardens Rye Patch Hitchcock Woods and examined oaks on Park Avenue and Beaufort Street. Organizers included the City of Aiken Woodlanders Inc and Bob McCartney.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Aiken area hosts missionaries from diverse backgrounds, including Sister Abad from the Philippines and Sister Abisai from Namibia. They serve six days a week, connecting with about 700 congregants at East Pine Log Road.
