United Way of Aiken County surpasses campaign goal

The United Way of Aiken County exceeded its 2002 campaign target of 2.78 million dollars after a tough year. Campaign chair Dana Wood praised volunteers, agencies like Helping Hands and Hitchcock Rehabilitation, and local donors for a strong team effort. A victory luncheon was planned at noon, and loaned executive Mark Tyrrell honored top accounts.

Hodges Visits Paul Knox Middle School in Campaign Tour

Aiken Chamber Names President Weiss Takes Post

Senior writer Charles Weiss is named new president of the Aiken Chamber of Commerce, replacing June Murff who retires after 21 years. Weiss will begin duties on December 1 and currently leads the Winchester Frederick County, Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

City of Aiken to Repave Four Miles of Roads

The City of Aiken outlines four miles of state streets to be resurfaced using over 200,000 state funds. A priority list from the Public Works Department includes Crosland Park streets and portions of East Boundary and Orangeburg, with resurfacing planned for 2008 and spillover to 2004 if not completed.
