A man shot at traffic and inside a Kmart store near U S 41 in ST JOHN Indiana killing three and wounding six before a police shootout left suspect James Koslow 31 dead. Witnesses recount the gunman declaring I am no cripple as bullets flew.
A Ruskin Spear portrait of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher showing buck teeth and a squinting gaze is among 1,172 works in the Royal Academy summer show in London. Spear, 74, is famed for sharp humorous depictions of famous figures. The show opens Saturday with previews allowed.
A 20 percent chance of thundershowers remains tonight and tomorrow. Evening lows stay in the 60s through Sunday. The high tomorrow reaches the mid 80s, with highs in the low 90s by Sunday.

Two Aiken County high schools St Angela Academy and Freedman Vocational School will host Friday night ceremonies as 1 350 students prepare to graduate across the county. St Angela Academy will honor 28 graduates at 7 30 p m in the gym with remarks by Mayor Weeks. Freedman Vocational School will hold its ceremony at 7 p m in Graniteville with speakers including Dr John Bradley and J Chris Verenes and diplomas presented by Jope and W C Gassman. The county’s other seven high schools hold events Tuesday June 4 with Aiken High School set for 6 p m at USC Aiken gym and a baccalaureate for 245 graduates Sunday June 2 at 8 p m.
The Aiken County Council passed the current 11.7 million budget on a technical reading delaying the 8 mill increase planned for 1985 86. Three possible cuts were discussed in executive sessions while a 1 6 million increase requires five votes for final approval.
A PSA rate study by Arthur Young for the Public Service Authority proposes raising water sewage charges from 58 cents to 72 or 74 cents per thousand gallons. Attendees from PSA, Aiken, North Augusta, and Aiken County Council debated including a debt service charge of 8 cents and scavenger waste costs, arguing they should not be added to the base. The plan would also reflect revenues from scavenger waste, which could offset increases. The argument continued at the meeting with a continuation noted on page 8A.
The Consolidated School District of Aiken County will seek a final budget from the school board at the June 25 session. The district adds 180,806 from Education Improvement Act funding and will consider PET, an alternative school and in school suspension programs. BSAP scores for eighth graders exceeded the national average. Nine of South Carolina’s 92 districts may test three models in 1985 86 with pilot funding. Area Two secession survey shows over 40 percent favor separation. only 25 percent responded.
