Worley targets Thurmond age in first campaign ad
Worley uses elderly voters to question 93 year old Senator Strom Thurmond's age in his first campaign spot. The ad features unnamed locals urging Thurmond to retire. Thurmond campaign denies impact, as Worley, North Myrtle Beach representative, challenges Thurmond in the June 11 Republican primary while other candidates compete in the Democratic and Libertarian races. Worley pledges no pension and supports term limits, aiming for two six year terms with flexibility.

Team Picked For Friday Execution
COLUMBIA The waiting is nearly over for convicted cop killer Robert South. At 1 a.m. day, he will be put to death by lethal injection. Backers say the method is less painful than electrocution and kills convicts quickly with fewer mishaps. South, 51, would be the second murderer in South Carolina executed by lethal injection. The first, Sylvester Adams, died last August. Gov. Beasley signed bills last June to shift from the electric chair, the state’s longtime method. South is condemned for the 1983 murder of rookie West Columbia officer Daniel Cogburn. He would be the first law enforcement officer killed by execution in South Carolina since 1977.
