The Senate Finance Committee voted unanimously to extend current tax cuts to prevent a scheduled July 1 rise. If antirecession cuts lapse, a four member family earning 15000 would face about 180 more dollars yearly, while other annual gains depend on filing status and income.
In Beirut 35 people were kidnapped amid heavy fighting in northern Lebanon near the Syrian border around Andket. Unconfirmed reports say 11 Muslims were executed after the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt's sister. Police report 48 killed and 96 wounded across fronts with shelling in Christian and Muslim quarters.
The 20 room Tammy Wynette residence in Oak Hill near Nashville suffered two fires at opposite ends, with arson suspected.
