Aiken Marines honored at state convention
Members of the Aiken Marine Corps League received state awards at a Myrtle Beach convention. Ed Hammons earned the Distinguished Service Award Silver for the Veterans Memorial Park project, and Paul D. Williams was named state Marine of the Year. Jesse L. Goldman became state chaplain, Hammons elected State Judge Advocate, and the detachment won best attendance. Hammons said Aiken has the state’s most active members. A June 3 send off ceremony for 10 recruits bound for Parris Island will be held in Aiken at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus on Daughtery Road.
