SRS Lands Ohio Tritium Operation
Department of Energy will relocate all related operations from Ohio to Savannah River Site. Rep. Butler Derrick says the move adds 100 jobs at SRS and makes it the sole tritium processing site for DOE. Mound Plant near Miamisburg and Pinellas Plant in Florida will be closed. Secretary Hazel OLeary announced the decision at a briefing. Consultants viewed the move as a cost savings measure.

Gas prices rise as travel season looms nationwide
AAA reports higher summer gas costs with Memorial Day marking the start of peak travel. In South Carolina self service unleaded averages 1.03 per gallon, up seven tenths of a cent, while national regular averages sit at 1.13. North Carolina sees 1.07 per gallon, down 1.5 cents from last year. AAA expects a record travel year and continued price increases.
