Woman freed after two decades in prison
Marie La Pinta, 69, released from Suffolk County jail after prosecutors said she would have qualified for a battered wife defense had the law existed then. Her son Anthony, a lawyer, helped win the overturning of her 1984 conviction for aiding in disposing of her husband Michael La Pinta’s body with co-defendant Leonardo Crociata.
