Sheriff Howard Sellers said Monday confiscated property from a weekend drug crackdown in New Hope may be forfeited to local authorities. He suggested a house on the lot could be burned and the site turned into a playground for neighborhood children once the court clears the seizure under state law.
The Aan County School District faces an 4.4 million increase in operating costs driving the 1992-93 budget to about 110 million and the proposed 114.4 million. The 114.4 million is 2.4 million short of what the district needs to operate next year as outlined by school comptroller Larry Clark, prompting an 8.1 mil tax increase request. Rep Irene Rudnick has sponsored a bill in the House Education and Public Works Committee to approve the tax request.
Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo, 66, his driver, and five others died in a cross-fire at Guadalajara's international airport as gunmen fired more than 45 bullets. Two gunmen were arrested. Police halted flights and launched a manhunt amid suspicions of a cartel feud. The cardinal had been en route to Mexico City for a meeting with the nuncio.

Law enforcement searched for a kidnapping suspect Monday night near the 8.C. 302 intersection with New Holland Road. A bloodhound unit tracked a trail as officers rerouted traffic near Eubanks Country Store. The scene was cleared at 9:45 a.m. after the trail was apparently lost.

Ebasco receives a 17 million dollar contract from Westinghouse Savannah River Company to perform nondestructive testing civil testing and inspection at the Savannah River Site. Work covers a five year term with ongoing services since 1987 including quality assurance engineering supplier surveillance nondestructive examination records and reactor restart safety programs.
The Department of Energy will resume shipping plutonium-238 to the Savannah River Site for processing into heat generators powering a 1967 Saturn mission. The move preserves about 185 HB-Line jobs, reviving shipments halted last year over safety concerns about plutonium-239 storage. U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond announced the plan on Monday.
