Andretti Named Indy 500 Winner After Penalty to Unser
Andretti was crowned winner of the Indianapolis 500 after officials penalized Bobby Unser one lap for passing cars under a yellow during a late pit sequence. City Taxes To Hold, Some Fees To Rise
Coping with cuts is the theme of next year's budget for the City of Aiken. The proposed budget will be presented by the Aiken City Council tonight at 7 30 at the Municipal Building 214 Park Ave. The budget proposes no tax millage increase but rising utility and fuel costs have forced increases in other areas. Fire protection rates for non City residents are to be raised as well as off street garbage collection rates according to the proposed budget. Changes in sewer rates reflect increases levied on the City by the Public Service Authority but no actual increase by the City. Other business includes companion ordinances concerning the levy of taxes expenditure of revenue sharing funds and amendments to garbage fire and sewer service rates. Burned Body Identified in New Ellenton Ford Mustang II
Authorities identify the burned body found in a 1976 Ford Mustang II as Walter Vernon Slayton 20 of Ellen ton Avenue New Ellenton. The body was taken to MUSC Charleston for tests after the car was found Thursday evening on a Sizemore Street logging road and described as intentionally set.
