A Delta Air Lines jet carrying 96 passengers and six crew was hijacked from Atlanta to Miami and landed at Jose Marti Airport in Havana at 8:23 a.m. EDT. It was joined by a Mexicana de Aviacion plane with 79 aboard diverted by unknown hijackers en route from Cozumel to Merida. The Delta flight had originated in Chicago with a stop in Louisville.
Mrs Mamie Eisenhower agreed to receive an honorary doctorate after rain forced Wilson College to move the ceremony indoors. Four students in black shrouds with Cambodia Kent State and Jackson State slogans appeared on stage but stayed outside as the event shifted venues.

A 29 year old woman in Aiken County has been charged with murder after Lomile Washington 42 died from shotgun wounds. Washington died at Aiken County Hospital about 6:15 p.m. Sunday following the shooting in the front yard of the Parnell residence on Dry Branch Road near New Ellenton.
U S B52 bombers struck North Vietnamese base camps and staging areas along the DMZ as allied forces pursue a growing buildup in South Vietnam. South Vietnamese troops reported 45 enemy killed and 17 weapons captured, while U.S. battlefield deaths in Cambodia surpassed 200. Casualties included three American soldiers killed and 31 wounded from rocket and mortar attacks near Da Nang Hue and the DMZ.
Aiken County reports a preliminary population of 88,991, up 7,953 from the 1960 census of 81,038. The figure was issued by Mrs. Ermine M. Nave of Greenwood who supervised the local census taking.
