Brothers arrested in armed robbery at Bank of America

Aiken County deputies linked North Augusta brothers Thomas J. Chambers 23 and Matthew J. Chambers 19 to a Friday holdup and purse snatching in Belvedere parking lot. The men pulled a gun, demanded a purse, and fled. one brother was arrested near the bank and the second later after a lockdown at Belvedere Elementary School. A handgun and victim money were recovered.

Monsanto grants boost science at area schools and ATC

Armed gunman robs Aiken Check to Cash on Whiskey Road

A lone gunman robbed the Check to Cash on 1984 Whiskey Road in Aiken at gunpoint, taking undisclosed cash before fleeing. Suspect described as 20s-50s, wearing red white striped shirt, blue jeans, dark hat and sunglasses. Detective Keith Glover urged tips to 642-7683 or Crime Stoppers Midlands at 888 559-TIPS. In a separate federal case, Steve Coleman, 27, was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for a Sept. 21, 2006 incident, potentially facing 10 years. investigation by ATF and Lexington County Sheriff's Office.

York Street Bridge Closure For Repairs In Aiken

York Street 200 block will close from 8 30 am June 16 to June 30 for wooden bridge repairs over Southern Railroad tracks. Detours divert traffic via Chesterfield Street with barriers at York Park and York Colleton.
