New Ellenton police say Richard Franklin, 43, robbed the Rainbow Gas Garden at North Main Street after casing the store. He was identified from surveillance footage and arrested Monday at a residence in Aiken, charged with simple larceny. Franklin provided a China Grove address and was jailed at the Aiken County Detention Center.
A 58-year-old man and a 22-year-old man in a Batesburg home argue over demands. The younger victim says the older man cut off his clothing and sliced arms with a knife while holding a blade to his throat. An officer found the unclothed victim running down the street. Meanwhile Memorial Day events in Aiken include a parade at 1 p.m. with a F-16 flyover, free lemonade at First Presbyterian and Rose Hill Estate, and Grand Marshal Ronnie Young.
