South Carolina will require fingerprint based background checks for real estate agents brokers property managers and supervisors at every six year renewal under a law signed by Gov. Henry McMaster The measure was prompted by the 2016 arrest of Todd Kohlhepp who is charged with seven murders and other crimes as investigators probe past offenses The law targets 48000 industry workers and takes effect in 2020 It aims to prevent licensed individuals with criminal histories from accessing homes via MLS keys and electronic systems while lawmakers consider extending checks to other licenses
