First commercial SpaceX Dragon reaches orbit toward ISS
The Falcon 9 rocket with the Dragon capsule launched from Cape Canaveral just before 4 a.m. delivering nonessential cargo for six crew and aiming to rendezvous with the ISS within days. Elon Musk celebrated the test flight as a landmark for private spaceflight. NASA and the White House hailed the mission as a new era with private companies taking over ISS flights in the coming years. Flight controllers cheered as the capsule reached orbit and solar panels deployed.
