Long acting asthma drug alone risks worsen condition say studies
Two new studies challenge using salmeterol xinafoate by itself for persistent asthma. Researchers led by Dr Stephen Lazarus find inhaled steroids needed to address underlying inflammation. The work in JAMA notes salmeterol eases symptoms but does not curb inflammation and may allow reduced steroid use without worsening disease.
