An 18-wheeler overturned on the eastbound exit ramp of U S 25 off I 20 at 5 19 pm. The truck carried wet fiberglass shavings but posed no danger. Traffic was detained briefly. Lt R H Fields of the North Augusta DPS said no charges have been filed.
An NRC member warned that U S reactors are not designed for large scale core melt events and a major accident could occur within twenty years with radiation releases comparable to Chernobyl. He urged further safety steps before such a disaster. Scientists report a potential AIDS vaccine lead linking an immune hormone segment to the virus core.
