Peace Corps to Accept Same-Sex Couples as Volunteers
The Peace Corps will start accepting applications from same sex domestic partners to serve as volunteers overseas. The policy aims to diversify applicants and boost education health care and economic development efforts. Married couples have served together since 1961 and about seven percent of overseas assignments involve couples. Partners must sign an affidavit verifying their relationship. There are over 8,000 volunteers in 76 countries involved in programs from HIV Aids education to information technology.
