Five miners dead in eastern Kentucky coal mine blast
An explosion at Darby Mine No 1 in Harlan County Kentucky killed five miners and injured others as a maintenance shift worked. A survivor, Paul Ledford, was treated and released. The mine is operated by Kentucky Darby LLC and faced prior safety concerns and legislative action nationwide.
