CBS drops Gumbel show as fall schedule adds seven new series
NEW YORK CBS announced a fall lineup adding seven new series while dropping Bryant Gumbel’s Public Eye and ending David Caruso’s comeback. The plan includes a Sammo Hung martial arts drama, a retiree PI drama, The King of Queens, and a comedy about a man who buys a 70 inch TV. Gumbel will host summer specials and air Public Eye to possibly lead off if fall shows stumble. Moonves said CBS still backs Gumbel as 60 Minutes expansion trials continue. The network also replaces several dramas and comedies and shifts Everybody Loves Raymond to 9 pm while Early Edition moves to 8 pm on Saturdays. NFL football returns in fall to lure male viewers.
