Nominees must submit three recommendation letters and an essay, with Salter praised for making knowledge relevant and developing critical thinking.

Museum Director To Retire In July
Aiken County Museum Director Bill Parden will retire on July 13 after four years leading the facility through growth. He plans to tinker on property with his wife until funds run out and then seek another job. Parden, a retired Navy captain with 28 years of service, credited volunteers for the museum’s success and said a successor will be chosen by May 25. The Parchens have three children and two expected grandchildren and will spend time with them. He noted his only regret is the Navy Academy’s football losses to West Point.

Dole to Take Part in Beech Island Heritage Day
Republican presidential candidate Sen. Bob Dole will join Sen. Strom Thurmond and Rep. Lindsey Graham for Beech Island Heritage Day at Redcliffe Plantation. The 10 a.m. parade opens ceremonies honoring the end of World War I, with Thurmond to be saluted at noon on Hammond House porch for long public service.
