Ronnie Young longtime Aiken County Council chair and state representative died at 71 after a cancer battle. A dedicated public servant known as one of the Valley boys he began on county council in 1994 and served through 2017. Aiken County hosts a Memorial Day Parade in downtown Aiken on May 25 at 11 am along Park Avenue and Laurens Street with floats veterans service groups local bands and businesses. Other events include EastWind Dragon Faire at EastWind Castle May 25–26, a Splashground open weekends and Mondays, Hopelands Concert Series May 27 featuring the Aiken Civic Ballet, a Memorial Day Bash at SRP Park May 26–27, and the Annual Post 71 Memorial Day Ceremony May 27 at Wade Hampton Park with a JROTC showcase and guest speaker Don Clark.
